Prerequisites for Enrolment

From the side of the President of the University Wuppertal there is no special set of rules for the admission to the Master Programme. However, there are certain prerequisites to be met by applicants in accordance with §2 of the Master Examination Rules (Prüfungsordnung für den Master-Studiengang Wirtschaftswissenschaft (Business Administration and Economics) vom 22.08.2007 (Amtl. Mittlg. Nr. 37/2007), zuletzt geändert durch Änderungsordnung vom 03.01.2012 (Amtl. Mittlg. Nr. 1/2012)).

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor or Diploma Programme in the field of Business Administration or Economics.
  • Minimum grade "C" in accordance with ECTS. If no ECTS-grade is shown on the certificate, the mark "2.5" is the minimum (according to the German grading system).
  • At least 100 ECTS-credits must be from Economics and Business Administration or Computer Science & Economics, Mathematical Economics or Pedagogics in Economics/Management, of which at least 15 ECTS-credits must be from the field of Business Administration and at least 15 ECTS-credits must be from the field of Economics.
  • At least 20 ECTS-credits must be obtained in courses which qualify the student for conducting research (eg. thesis, relevant seminars and related forms of teaching, including those who emphasize the learning of scientific analytical methods).

2. Admission (interested people with a degree from abroad)

  • Standard starting semester is in autumn (October) and spring (April).
  • Application deadline is May 15 to July 15 and November 15 to January 15.

Application documents

  • Filled application form for admission.
  • Officially certified copies of the bachelor or equivalent degree, of the diploma supplement and of the transcript of records. If the certificates are in a language other than English, French or German, an officially certified translation into German or English must also be submitted.
  • A short letter of motivation stating your choice and knowledge in the disciplinary science.
  • English language test: The results of the IELTS/TOEFL, or a document certifying that you have taken your first degree in English. The University Wuppertal's TOEFL code number is 2727. Indicate this code to the Educational Testing Service so that your scores can be sent directly to us. 
  • Applicants who are not German native speakers and whose qualifications for admission to BUW have not been gained in a German speaking environment must provide evidence of proficiency in German at least level A2 (basic level) of the European Reference Framework.
  • Officially certified copies of the school leaving certificate including the transcript of records. If the certificates are in a language other than English, French or German, an officially certified translation into German or English must also be submitted.

 

 The minimal scores for the English language test are as follow:

  • TOEFL, IBT (internet based): 79 points
  • TOEFL, CBT (computer based, only accepted until September 2008): 213 points
  • TOEFL, PBT (paper based): 550 points
  • IELTS, academic module: 6.0 band score
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: Level 4
  • or another language certificate the level C1 of the European Framework of Reference
